For the Love of the Horse – Keep Learning!
Liz Morrison – experienced equestrian coach using sports psychology and action learning.
Liz’s approach draws on modern learning techniques, including coaching, NLP based sports psychology, . She studied action learning approaches through an MSc in facilitation and systems thinking at the University of Bath, followed by the UKCC Level 3 coaching certificate. Her workshops are highly interactive and support reflective learning.
Workshops available in 2023-24 include:
She also offers both mounted and unmounted coaching with an NLP Sports Psychology focus. These help you increase your self awareness and plan your goals in line with your values and the rest of your life. We are confident that this will build your confidence and improve your performance, no matter what level you are riding at.
From writing The Veterinary Care of the Horse with Sue Devereux 20 years ago, Liz has always had an deep interest in horse care, training and riding for soundness. As well as working closely with vets, Liz has been fortunate enough to ride with brilliant trainers who get inside a horse’s mind and train with compassion. She carries this knowledge on from them and adds expertise in sports psychology for professional performance.
She has been a British Dressage listed Judge for over 25 years, noted for her calm approach, humour and ability to solve horse-rider partnership issues. She often focuses on the rider’s influence on the horse – both mental and postural, looking at the foundation of the relationship rather than quick fixes.
She developed her approach through advanced NLP and professional coach training over many years- including writing Simple Steps to Riding Success and co-authoring Ride with Confidence, both best-selling guides to sports psychology for riders. Liz has worked privately with riders and teams in almost every equestrian discipline, at every competitive level. Her sports psychology work is understandably highly personal and confidential, based on private recommendation.
She has recently moved to the Wiltshire / Oxfordshire borders, and can coach in the surrounding areas.
Liz is the Founder and Operations Director of this innovative, not-for-profit organisation. It has been funded through rural and equestrian charities and a Sport England Award for Innovation. We are seeking partner organisations to work with us to help it reach more horse lovers!
The idea was simply a hydraulic mounting platform attached to a horsebox to create a ‘mobile RDA’ which can go to the places where participants want to ride as they can mount and dismount with ease. It has a kitchen, loo, external awning and a pop out side that creates a welcoming wheelchair accessible space. It can also be used to take combinations out to competitions and lessons or hacking around beautiful places – it will create a treasured riding experience.
The horsebox design means it can also be used to visit care homes and hospices for residents to re-connect with horses in a safe and private space. Anyone who understands the special relationship will know just how important this could be to a horse-lover….
Positive riding is dedicated to helping riders understand more about horses and how to build great relationships with them. Some quotes that guide our work:
There is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man – Winston Churchill
Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication. – Leonardo da Vinci
Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler. – Albert Einstein
“…I found the subject absolutely fascinating and came home with my head buzzing with thoughts and ideas about where my beliefs had gone wrong and what I was going to do about it !!!…” “..For me the greatest thing is how much it affected my approach to everyday matters as well as my riding. I seem to see things so much more clearly and so I can accept and deal with them. I’m not in such a fog anymore and am so much more relaxed about things that used to get me really stewed up!..”
“…I find it amazing how excited I get just talking about and planning what I really want to do! It makes it feel like you are starting to work toward your goal and putting your dreams into action , which is really encouraging……..I look forward to the future!..”
Copies of Simple Steps to Riding Success have been sold, including translations into Dutch, Russian and Finnish!
